What exactly is ONVIF?
The ONVIF protocol is a communication standard used to connect different manufacturers' IP security products. The Open Network Video Interface Forum created the ONVIF protocol.
What is the purpose of ONVIF?
It facilitates the integration of equipment from various manufacturers, allowing equipment that would not otherwise be compatible to work together. Almost all NVRs and IP cameras now support ONVIF, allowing IP equipment from various manufacturers to "talk" to one another.
IP cameras that support ONVIF
An ONVIF IP camera is a low-cost generic camera that, using the ONVIF protocol, can be integrated into any manufacturer's NVR recorder.
