Step by Step Guide to Modify Hikvision Device Password

Hikvision: How to Change a Device's Admin Password via Web or iVMS-4200 

It is never a good idea to connect a device to the network while leaving the default username and password (passwords) in place for security reasons. Changing the password on a Hikvision device is a simple process that can be accomplished through the web interface, Local Interface or the iVMS-4200.

Method 1: Change the password of Hikvision device via Web Interface

To do it through the web interface, we will connect to our equipment (DVR, NVR, etc.) with our administrator login. Once inside the page, we will go to the "Configuration -> Remote Configuration -> Account Administration" section.

From here, we can modify the user account "admin", and change the password to whatever we want. It is vital to keep this password safe and not lose it, since if we lose the administrator password we will not be able to recover it without the equipment going through technical service.

In this same section if we want we can create more user accounts, to which we can limit the permissions. In this way we can connect to the computer using an account without administrator permission, or for example we can create access for third parties with limited permissions.

Method 2: Change the password of Hikvision device via iVMS-4200

Assuming that we already have the equipment configured and accessible from iVMS-4200, to do the same process we will go to the "Device Management" section and select the equipment for which we want to change the password. We give "Config" to edit the remote configuration of the device.

Once we are in the remote configuration, we go to the "System -> User" section. We select the "admin" account and click on "Modify".

We create the new password that we want and we give it and «Apply». In this same section, we can also create more user accounts with different permissions, in a similar way to how we have done it through the web interface.

Having changed the device's admin password, iVMS-4200 can no longer connect. We need to edit the configuration of the equipment in iVMS-4200 and change the password to the new one that we have set.

If we have other devices configured to access remotely (smartphones with iVMS-4500, tablets with iVMS-4500 HD, etc.) we will also have to modify the device configuration, and change the password to the new one.
